Donald Rountree of Fort Valley has been hired as the new Heavy Equipment Dealer Service Technology Instructor for South Georgia Technical College’s Americus campus, SGTC President Dr. John Watford recently announced. Rountree will report to SGTC Dean of Academic Affairs Raymond Holt and Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers.

Rountree brings over 20 years of related experience to his new position as an instructor for the Caterpillar program at SGTC. He gained much of that experience from the rental equipment business, where he has serviced and maintained rental equipment in one way or another. He comes to SGTC from Sunbelt Rentals of Warner Robins, where he served as the service manager for two years – managing the day-to-day operations of the shop and field service. In addition to Sunbelt, he has also worked in several different capacities for other equipment rental companies, which include Premier Platform in Byron, RSC Equipment Rental in Byron, Trax Inc. in Macon and Stith Equipment Co. in Macon.

Rountree is a former graduate of South Georgia Technical College’s Diesel Mechanics program. Additionally, he has earned three other degrees – an Associate’s in General Studies from Georgia Military College, a Teaching Diploma from Toccoa Falls College and a Bachelor’s in Ministry Leadership degree from Toccoa Falls College as well. Routree put his ministry degree to work in 2011 when he became an associate and youth pastor for GracePointe Church in Fort Valley, where he served until 2013, before going back to work in the field.

As a new Heavy Equipment Service Tech instructor, Rountree will be responsible for planning and instruction in ways that maximize student learning, contribute to program and division curriculum development processes, participate in professional development and training to stay current in the heavy equipment field, as well as perform other duties as assigned.

“South Georgia Technical College’s Heavy Equipment Diesel Technology program is very unique,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford.  “We are very fortunate to have Donald Rountree join our faculty and staff in this position.  He has some very big shoes to fill since our lead instructor Rick Davis is retiring soon, but he has the background and experience needed to help our students excel.  I look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”

The Heavy Equipment Dealers Service Technology Associate degree program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in the heavy equipment service and repair profession, specifically for Caterpillar dealers.
