Lady Jets Alyssa Nieves named as GCAA Player of the Week

South Georgia Technical College’s Alyssa Nieves (13) was selected as the GCAA Division I women’s basketball Player of the Week recently.

South Georgia Technical College Freshman guard, Alyssa Nieves from Tampa, FL, was selected as the Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association this past week.
Nieves averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, two assists and 2.5 steals in the Lady Jets two wins this past week. This is the second time this season that she has earned this honor and the 10th time that a South Georgia Technical College Jet or Lady Jets player has been recognized as a Player of the Week.
The Lady Jets are currently in first place in the GCAA with a 13 – 1 conference record and a 21 – 5 overall record.
Fans can come out and catch both the Jets and Lady Jets in action at home Wednesday, February 7th when the Jets and Lady Jets host Andrew College in conference games. The Lady Jets open at 5:30 p.m. and then the Jets follow at 7:30 p.m.
Then on Saturday, February 10th the Jets and Lady Jets will be recognizing their sophomore players as part of the SGTC Alumni/Sophomore Day event. The two teams will face off against Georgia Highlands College in two big conference showdowns at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The four teams are ranked one and two in the conference. An alumni game will be held at 10:30 a.m. featuring 48 former Jets and Lady Jets players. A Tailgating cookout will follow at 11:30 and then the conference match-ups. Admission is free to the Alumni events, tailgating, and basketball games. Free t-shirts, as long as supplies last, will be distributed to SGTC retirees, alumni, students, and faculty and staff.
