Learning to drive is a major milestone in a teenager’s life. It’s important for young or inexperienced drivers to learn safe driving techniques. There are four different ways Joshua’s Law can be satisfied for teenagers to meet the requirements for a Class D license. The program offered by South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) meets the option that includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 additional hours of drive time with an instructor. SGTC provides a (DDS approved) Driver’s Education program in cooperation with the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission (GDEC).
To join a class, a student must be between the ages of 15 to 18. Students who are 18 are allowed to take the course if they are currently enrolled in high school or have graduated from high school within the last six months prior to the beginning date of the class. We do not offer adult driving lessons or classes.
Students ages 15-17 with a Georgia learner’s permit are encouraged to apply for the grant scholarship (value of $375.00). Scholarships are not awarded by SGTC and therefore, SGTC will not be able to check the status of scholarship applications. GDEC operates the scholarship program so any scholarship inquiries will need to be directed to GDEC. Program eligibility information can be found by clicking here.
