Jets win 5th straight conference game
BARNESVILLE, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets clinched their fifth consecutive Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference win Saturday in an 80 – 77 come from behind win over Gordon College in Barnesville. The Jets moved to 5 – 2 in the conference and 9 – 12 overall.
The Jets were down 51 – 40 at the end of the first half but played strong defense in the second half and maintained a consistent offense to outscore Gordon 40 – 26 and take the 80 – 77 victory. South Georgia Tech and Gordon are now tied for third place in the GCAA Division I standings. Georgia Highlands remains in first place with a 6 – 1 record and Central Georgia Tech is currently in second place with a 6 – 2 performance.
South Georgia Technical College Jets head coach Travis Garrett was pleased with the win and the way his team is coming together right now to overcome obstacles and find a way to win especially on the road. “A conference win is always good but when you can win in someone else’s gym that is an added bonus,” said Garrett.
The Jets were led by freshman forward Jeremy Johnson from Orlando, FL. He was the leading scorer with 32 points. He was seven of 12 from the three-point line and one of one from the foul line. He also had 10 points from the two-point lane.
Justin Johnson, a freshman guard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, had a double-double night with 27 points and 11 rebounds. He was three of seven from the three-point line and two of two from the free throw line. He also had 16 points from inside the paint.
Johnathan Tchuisse, a sophomore from Paris, France, scored six points off the bench. Sam Matice accounted for five points and he was joined by Jaylan McKinney, who also had five points. DJ Fisher tossed in three points and Nick Cummings added two points to close out the scoring.
The Jets and Lady Jets will be looking for additional GCAA conference wins Wednesday when they travel to Swainsboro on Wednesday, January 30th. The Lady Jets will take on the East Georgia Lady Bobcats at 5:30 and the Jets will follow at 7:30 p.m.
The two South Georgia Tech teams will return home for a conference double-header against Central Georgia Technical College on Saturday, February 2nd at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the Hangar.
