Jets Split Two Games in Inaugural Pete Arrington Classic

The South Georgia Technical College Jets basketball team split their two games in the first annual Pete Arrington Classic in Americus. The Jets defeated the Wake College Eagles 91-76 in their first game, but came up short against Triton College, 86-74.

Against Wake College, freshman Lamont Sanders of Baltimore, MD led the scoring for the Jets with 17 points. Also in double digits for the Jets were freshman Tabais Long of Conyers, GA (14 points), sophomore Justin Johnson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL (12), and freshman Austin Hadden of Charlotte, NC (10).

Sophomore Jaylen McKinney contributed eight points, sophomore Toriano Lewis scored seven, and freshman Denari Garrett and sophomore Merdy Bata added six points each. Jalen Reynolds scored 4 points, Brice Paster scored three, and Emmanuel Nwaneri and Jonathan Kanyanga each added two points.

In the game against Triton College, Lamont Sanders again led the way with 15 points, and Toriano Lewis added 11. Other Jets contributing points were Jairus Carroll and Jalen Reynolds (8 each), Tabais Long (7), Jaylen McKinney and Merdy Bata (6), Justin Johnson (5), Austin Hadden and Brice Paster (3), and Denari Garrett (2).

After the weekend’s action, the Jets’ record stood at 4-3 overall with conference games still to come on their schedule.

The inaugural Pete Arrington Classic is named in memory of dedicated Jets supporter and booster club member Pete Arrington, who passed away this summer. The Jets could always count on Mr. Arrington to lend his vocal support at nearly every game. South Georgia Tech and the Jets recognized his family at halftime including his wife, retired SGTC cosmetology instructor Martha Arrington, and his stepdaughter, current SGTC Athletics Coordinator Terri Battle.

The next home game is scheduled for December 3, when the Jets will face Action Sports Academy at 7:00 p.m.
