Jets win first conference game of the season
Swainsboro, GA – South Georgia Technical College Jets head coach Travis Garrett and the 2019-2020 Jets coasted to a 101 – 62 victory over Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference opponent East Georgia on the road in their first contest of the new year and are currently tied with two other GCAA teams for first place in the conference.
The Jets had six players to score in double-digits over the East Georgia Bobcats as they shot 52.2% from the fields as well as 52% from the three-point line to shut down the struggling Bobcats and move to 8 – 7 overall and 1 – 0 in the GCAA.
“It was a good win and a great start to our conference schedule,” said Jets head coach Travis Garrett. “The season starts over January 1st. We begin conference play and we have to win these to finish strong and make it to the post-season tournament and beyond.”
Freshman Jalen Reynolds came off the bench to lead the Jets in scoring in that match-up. He was six of nine from under the basket and two of two from the foul line. He also pulled down a total of 12 rebounds to have a double-double in Swainsboro. Sophomore starter Justin Johnson was close behind with 13 points and nine rebounds on the night.
Sophomore Brice Paster also came off the bench to added 12 points and then sophomore Toriano Lewis, Austin Hadden and Denari Garrett all scored 11 points to close out the double-digit scoring.
Lamont Sanders added seven points, Jarius Carroll had six, Tabais Long accounted for five points, Emmanuel Nwaneri and Jonathan Kanyanga both tossed in four points and D.J. Fisher closed out the scoring with three points.
The win put South Georgia Tech in a three-way tie with South Georgia State and Andrew College all with identical 1 – 0 conference records. The Jets will try to move to 2 – 0 in the conference today when they host Central Georgia Tech in a double-header. The Lady Jets open up against the Lady Titans at 1 p.m. followed by the Jets at 3 p.m.
