South Georgia Tech incorporating new technology into program classroom instruction
South Georgia Technical College has now placed a total of 25 interactive touchscreen monitor displays in classrooms and meeting areas on its Americus and Crisp County Center campuses to assist students with interactive learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
“We had ordered several of these interactive touchscreen displays for the different instructional areas before the pandemic forced us to physically close our campus Spring Semester,” said South Georgia Technical College Vice President of Academic Affairs. “We now have a total of 25 of these across the two campuses. Every building should have at least one now and almost all of the displays are on carts so that we can move them from one classroom to the other if needed.”
The benefits of the new interactive touchscreen displays include allowing instructors to show web content, live-stream courses to other campuses and to any web device, record demonstrations and lectures to broadcast later (to let students catch-up if they miss a day or need a refresher to make up part of an online class) and also integrate web-based resources into classes.
On the Americus campus, the Medical Assisting, Electronics, Nursing, Automotive, Diesel, Welding, Culinary Arts and Cosmetology programs are having the new interactive displays installed. Culinary Arts, Medical Assisting and EMT, Business Technology and Criminal Justice Technology classrooms are receiving new boards on the Crisp County Center campus.
An interactive touchscreen monitor display was also purchased for the conference room for advisory committee meetings and for online training.
“We had already planned to start incorporating web-content into many of our programs before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but now this should help us bridge physical and digital learning,” explained Kuipers. “Instructors can also print off or convert notes to text and or access display tools to share files with students.”
