SGTC board member George Bryce resigns, moving to Tennessee

            South Georgia Technical College Board of Directors member George Bryce, owner and operator of Star Racing in Americus, announced his resignation from the Board recently.  He and his family are relocating to the Hendersonville, Tennessee area.

   Bryce and his wife, Jackie, have owned and operated Star Racing, a high performance motorcycle parts business and machine shop in Americus, GA for over 40 years.  He has also been a dynamic force behind the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Pro Stock Motorcycle series for more than 33 years.  He started out as the owner/ride/tuner of the Star Racing machines and has been credited with developing more professional racer talent than any other team owner in the history of Pro Stock Motorcycle Drag Racing.

    Bryce joined the South Georgia Technical College Board of Directors in 2011 and is currently serving his second six-year term on the board.  He has also served as an advisory committee member for the South Georgia Technical College High Performance Engines/Motorsports program.

   “We are certainly going to miss George and Jackie Bryce at South Georgia Technical College and I know our community is going to miss them,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “We wish them the best and Americus and Sumter County’s loss is going to be Nashville, Tennessee’s gain.”

    During his resignation speech, George Bryce thanked Dr. Watford and everyone associated with South Georgia Technical College for their support of him and his family and his business.  “Our community is very fortunate to have South Georgia Technical College here and I am so pleased to have been a part of this outstanding institution.  I thank you for your support and wish you continued success as you move forward,” said Bryce.

    After his brief talk, Georgia Bryce presented Dr. Watford and South Georgia Technical College with one of Star Racing’s “Wally Awards.”  The Wally is the trophy awarded to the winners of an NHRA national event.  They have been handed out at national events starting with the 1969 NHRA race season.  It was named after Wally Parks, the late NHRA founder.  The “Wally” is still one of the single biggest motivators for high-performance enthusiasts.

    “It is my pleasure to present this ‘Wally’ award to South Georgia Technical College,” said Board member George Bryce.  “South Georgia Technical College is a national winner in my book and I would like for you to have one of Star Racing’s national tournament trophies to display.”

    South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford accepted the award and thanked Bryce for the generous gift and assured him it would be put on display in the High Performance Engines/Motorsports area as a symbol of our partnership with Star Racing and Bryce’s.
