The Career Services department at South Georgia Technical College is helping bridge the gap between workers and employers by offering on-campus recruitment opportunities. Marty D. Thompson, Field Recruiter 3 with Ingalls Shipbuilding of Pascagoula, MS, recently visit campus to inform SGTC students in welding and electrical programs of potential career opportunities.

Welding instructors Ted Eschmann and Brad Aldridge and Electrical/Industrial Systems instructor Patrick Owen gave Thompson a tour of their program areas, and Thompson informed students that starting pay for SGTC graduates hired by Ingalls would be $23-$24 an hour with full-time benefits after 30 days.

Ingalls Shipbuilding is located on an 800-acre facility along the Pascagoula River, and employs more than 11,000 people.  They are the largest industrial supplier in MS, building four classes of ships for the U.S. Navy, and building over 70% of the military fleet.

Recruiting events are one of the ways SGTC Career Services helps connect SGTC graduates and job seekers in the community connect with prospective employers.
