SGTC Hosts On-Campus Recruitment Event for Guest Forestry Services

South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Career Services recently held an On-Campus Recruitment event featuring Guest Forestry Services, Inc., a forestry contracting company based in Plains, Georgia. The event was organized by Cynthia Carter, SGTC Career Services Director, and featured a presentation by Mikki Guest, Office Administrator and HR/Safety Manager at Guest Forestry Services.

Mikki Guest spoke to 16 students and their instructors from the Diesel Technology, Commercial Truck Driving, and Horticulture programs. The event provided students with insight into career opportunities available with the company, which operates across the Southeast, including Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.

Guest Forestry Services, founded in 2001 by owner Burt Guest, is a family-owned business that specializes in pine tree reforestation. Starting with just one bulldozer and a vision, the company has grown to provide a wide range of forestry services, including machine v-blade planting, chemical site preparation, and forestry fertilization. The company now operates 10 bulldozers and planters, five skidders, and multiple tractor-trailers.

During the presentation, Mikki Guest outlined the variety of skills the company seeks in potential employees. These include operating heavy machinery, diesel engine maintenance, commercial driving, forklift operation, welding, mathematics, and more. The company also offers mentorship to new employees, ensuring they develop the necessary skills and safety protocols for their roles.

Full-time employment opportunities are currently available at Guest Forestry Services. Several upcoming graduates expressed interest in pursuing these opportunities, which align with the training provided in SGTC’s programs.

Positions available at Guest Forestry Services include Forestry Equipment Operators, Aquatic and Chemical Resources Batchers, and Ground Operations Assistants.
