South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Career Services has teamed up with local Department of Community Supervision (DCS) personnel from the City of Americus to plan the college’s upcoming Annual Career Fair. Officer Mike Reeves suggested that Vonteresia Foster, a Community Supervision Officer (State Probation & Parole) and Americus native, join the team. The hiring event is scheduled for Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the SGTC campus.

Foster, an SGTC Criminal Justice alumna, graduated with her associate degree in 2019. Reflecting on her time at SGTC, she credits the South Georgia Technical College Foundation and its Executive Director, Su Ann Bird, the college’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement, for helping her overcome challenges during her academic journey. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without Su Ann Bird’s support,” said Foster. “She gave me a second chance when I lost my financial aid, and her kindness truly made a difference in my life.”

The South Georgia Technical College Foundation helps deserving students with education expenses through grants, scholarships and free access to textbooks. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization – led by a volunteer board of directors selected from the community. The foundation provides a legal vehicle to solicit, receive, invest, and disburse funds. The Foundation organizes and actively promotes annual fund drives as well as special capital campaigns designed to raise funds from the private sector.

After earning her degree from SGTC, Foster went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Strayer University in 2023. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration while continuing her career in community supervision.

Foster’s involvement in planning the Career Fair demonstrates her commitment to giving back to the college and community that supported her. The event will provide SGTC students and the local community with valuable networking and employment opportunities.
