SGTC Lady Jet Jamiah Gregory earns GCAA Player of Week honors
The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets had their fourth player selected for the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division 1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors. Freshman guard Jamiah Gregory of Marietta, GA was named GCAA Player of the Week for January 6 following SGTC’s first conference win over Albany Tech.
Gregory is 5’10” and this is her first season at SGTC. She has helped lead the Lady Jets to first place in the GCAA with a 2 – 0 conference record and an 11 – 5 overall record for the 2024 – 2025 season. She was selected Player of the Week after she averaged 20.5 points and eight rebounds in two games for the Lady Jets.
Gregory is currently leading the conference in scoring averaging 15.4 points per game. She has started all 16 of the Lady Jets games this season. In addition to leading her team and the conference in points per game, Gregory is ranked first in field goals attempted and made, and first in free throws attempted and made.
She hits 44.5% of her field goals, 63.2 of her free throw attempts and is averaging 6.1 rebounds per game as well as 1.8 assists. She has scored a total of 246 points this season. She also has 36 steals and seven blocks.
The other three Lady Jets selected for this honor this season include Stephie Salumu, a freshman guard from Belgium, who was the GCAA Player of the Week for the last week of December after scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds in a win for the Lady Jets.
Lady Jets Mariia Ignatchenko, a freshman center from Mykolaiv, Ukraine, was the first Lady Jet selected for this honor. She was recognized for the week of November 11 after scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Jets in a win over Tallahassee State College in the Tallahassee State College Classic.
Kaiya Carter, a freshman guard from Houston, TX, was the second Lady Jets selected. She was named for the week of December 2, 2024 after scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds in a game against Southern Union State in the Pete Arrington Thanksgiving Classic.
The Lady Jets will play at home, Wednesday, January 15th as part of a double-header. They will take on Central Georgia Technical College at 5:30 p.m. in the Hangar and the Jets will follow up at 7:30 in a game against South Georgia State College which is tied for first place in the conference with Central Georgia Tech and Albany Tech with identical 1 – 0 records. SGTC’s Jets lost to Central in their opening conference game, 76 – 61.
Both teams will play at home again on Saturday, January 18th with the Jets and Lady Jets taking on East Georgia State College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. East Georgia’s men lost to South Georgia State College 86 – 84 in overtime in Swainsboro. East Georgia’s women are the defending GCAA champions and they will play their first GCAA game Monday, January 13th at 5:30 p.m. at Andrew College. The Lady Jets were supposed to face East Georgia on Saturday but the game was postponed due to weather. It is biw scheduled for February 3.
