Scholarships available for new technical college students at South Georgia Tech
Scholarships are currently available for new high school graduates who are pursuing manufacturing fields entering South Georgia Technical College or one of the other Technical College System of Georgia colleges. The deadline to apply for Fall semester is June 16th. The Manufacturers Education Foundation, in partnership with American Made Movie and American Town LLC and the Technical College System foundation, is funding $20,000 in scholarships this fall. New students enrolling in automated manufacturing technology, engineering technology, electronics technology, industrial systems technology, industrial maintenance, electrical maintenance and mechatronics programs are eligible for the scholarships. Previously, the awards were only open to tech college students who had completed 15 hours in a manufacturing program. Scholarships are now available for high school graduates entering the Technical College System of Georgia and enrolling in a manufacturing program as well as for students who have completed 15 hours in a manufacturing program. To apply for the scholarships, students must be a citizen of the United States, be enrolled in one of the acceptable programs at a TCSG college, have a GPA of 2.5, demonstrate financial need, demonstrate in a letter (500 words or less) how this scholarship will benefit the applicant and his/her future educational plans. “There is no greater need by manufacturers across our state than access to a pool of talent prepared to begin a career in manufacturing,” said Roy Bowen, president of the Georgia Association of Manufacturers. “To grow that pipeline of talent, the Georgia Association of Manufacturers and its member companies must make students, parents, teachers and counselors more aware of the rich career opportunities in manufacturing, and the support for continued education after beginning work.” More information about the scholarships is available at 404-327-6918, and searching TCSG Foundation Scholarships. Scholarship applications can also be picked up from the South Georgia Technical College Foundation office in room 106 in the Odom Center Building on the Americus campus or by calling 229-931-2248
