Jets win two games at South Georgia Classic in Waycross
WAYCROSS, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets have moved to 4 – 3 on the season after capturing two wins at the South Georgia State College Basketball Classic in Waycross this past weekend. They opened with a 72 – 61 victory over South Crescent Technical College on Friday and then came back and defeated Combine Academy 92 – 78 on Saturday.
Andre Kennedy, a sophomore transfer forward from Albany, GA, led the Jets in scoring in both games. He had 24 points in the opening game against South Crescent and then came back and posted 23 points in the Jets win against Combine Academy.
This was the third straight victory on the road for the Jets. The Jets opened up with an impressive 43 -25 lead against South Crescent at the end of the first half, but South Crescent outscored the Jets 36 – 29 to cut that lead to 11 points.
Andre Kennedy added nine rebounds, one assist and two blocked shots to his 24-point effort in that match-up. The only other Jet in double-figures was Bobby Jackson, a sophomore forward from Dacula. Jackson had 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Trevon Teague, a sophomore guard from Cincinnati, OH, and DeAntre Mack, a freshman from Atlanta, Georgia, both added seven points each in that victory.
The Jets came back on Saturday and walked away with a 92 – 78 win over Combine Academy. The Jets led 51 – 46 at the end of the first half and built on that lead in the second half to capture the win. Andre Kennedy was the leading scorer again with 23 points. He also added 12 rebounds, and one assist.
Three other SGTC players reached double-figures in this contest. Freshman guard DeAntre Mack came away with 15 points, sophomore guard Pat Welch from Pembroke NH, added 14 points, and Bobby Jackson, the sophomore forward, closed out the double-digit scoring with 12 points. Trevon Teague had nine points and Jalen Thomas was next with eight points.
The Jets will travel to Wadley, AL to take on Southern Union Community College. The Lady Jets open at 5:30 CST and then the Jets will follow at 7:30 CST.
Both the Jets and the Lady Jets will return home to a Thanksgiving Classic tournament this weekend. They Jets play November 25th and 26th and the Lady Jets will play on the 26th and 27th.
The Jets are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 25th against St. Petersburg College and then at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 26th at 4 p.m. against the College of Central Florida. The Lady Jets will play at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Motlow State and then again on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Pensacola State.
