Lady Jets advance to 8 – 0 with win over Motlow in Thanksgiving Classic
The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets continued their winning ways with a 66 – 55 victory over the Motlow State Lady Bucks from Lynchburg, TN in the first round of the Lady Jets Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 26th in the Hangar on the SGTC Americus campus. The Lady Jets are now 8 – 0 on the season.
“Motlow has a very good team,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “We looked good at times, but then we had times where we didn’t execute like we needed to.”
The Lady Jets came out strong and were up by as many as 12 points in the first half, before Motlow came back and cut the deficit to 10 points to be down 33 – 23 at the end of the first half.
South Georgia Tech came back in the second half and stretched their lead to 19 points but a late surge by the Motlow Lady Bucks allowed them to pull within 11 points by the final buzzer.
Returning sophomore guard La’Deja James from Virginia Beach, Virginia, continued to lead the Lady Jets in points and on the court. She had a total of 19 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. She was the GCAA player of the week last week for the Lady Jets.
Two other Lady Jets ended up in double-figures in that match-up. Sophomore transfer guard Camille Coleman from South Bend, IN, and Houlfat Manouchiza, a freshman forward from France, both added 10 points each. Manouchiza also pulled down seven rebounds and had five assists.
Kanna Suzuki, a freshman guard from Japan, added nine points. She was three of five from the three-point line. She also had three assists. Sophomore transfers Shaineequah Fluelllyn and Desiree Corbin added eight and six points respectively. Corbin also had 12 rebounds
The Lady Jets will play again in their Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday, November 27th. They will take on Pensacola State at 6 p.m. Central Georgia Technical College will face Motlow State in the opening game Sunday at 4 p.m.
They have two more home games this coming week. They will host Santa Fe College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30th and then take on Southern Union on Saturday, December 3rd at 1 p.m. as part of a double-header with the Jets.
