SGTC PBL competes in South District Competition

MACON, GA – South Georgia Technical College students earned a total of 29 awards in the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) South District Competition held recently at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon.  Students from both the Americus and Crisp County Center Phi Beta Lambda chapters both competed and took eight first place awards, eleven second places, six third places, two fourth and two fifth place awards at the competition.

First place winners included Ashley N. Halstead of Ellaville, Business Law; Kia Mable of Americus, Future Business Educator; Alicia R. English, who placed first in both Management Analysis Decision Making and Desktop Publishing; Alexandra Joiner of Cordele, Public Speaking; Christopher McGee of Cordele, Sales Presentation; Tonekita Rogers of Cordele, Word Processing; and Jordan Smith of Cordele, Retail Management.

Second place winners were Ashley N. Halstead, Microeconomics; Racarda Blackmon of Americus, Helpdesk; Racarda Blackmon and Kia Mable, Emerging Business Issues; Fierra Riley of Americus, Information Management; Shannon Stewart of Americus, Project Management and Desktop Publishing; Andrea Burton Willis of Americus, Organizational Behavior and Leadership; Jaleun Willis of Americus, Sales Presentation; Dravian McGill of Cordele, Justice Administration; and Jordan Smith of Cordele, Marketing Concepts.

Third place winners were Fierra Riley, Retail Management; Jarrius Cladd of Americus, Entrepreneur Concepts; Karen Shell of Americus, Public Speaking; Andrea Burton Willis, Business Decision-Making; and Ramona Williams of Cordele, Justice Administration.

Fourth place winners included Jarrius Cladd, Retail Management; and Karen Shell, Job Interview.

Jaleun Willis also won fifth place in Impromptu Speaking.

The Americus PBL chapter also took fifth place in the Battle of the Chapters and the South Georgia Technical College Americus campus is tied with Athens Technical College for the highest membership.  Every South Georgia Technical College student that competed in the event finished with a first, second, third, fourth, or fifth place award in their respective competitions.

Advisors for the Americus campus PBL chapter include Andrea Oates and Donna Lawrence. Teresa Jolly and Karen Bloodworth are the advisors for the Crisp County Center campus chapter.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) are the largest business career student organizations in the world. The FBLA high school division has 215,000 members while the post-secondary division reaches over 11,000 college students. Phi Beta Lambda allows students to build a portfolio of documented accomplishments as a complement to their academic experience. The organization helps develop leadership, communication, and team skills that can be applied in the business setting.
