Luke Martin named SGTC Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Dealer Service Technology instructor

Luke Martin of Ellaville was named Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Dealer Service Technology instructor for South Georgia Technical College, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford recently. In his new role, he will report to SGTC Dean for Academic Affairs Raymond Holt and Vice President for Academic Affairs David Kuipers.

As an instructor for the Caterpillar ThinkBIG program at South Georgia Tech, Martin will be responsible for planning and organizing instruction in ways that maximize student learning, contribute to program and division curriculum development processes, serve on divisional, program, and other committees; and participate in professional development and training to stay current in the heavy equipment field.

A graduate of the ThinkBIG program at SGTC, Luke Martin worked as a Technician for Yancey Bros. in Albany from 2008 until 2013, and at PineOak Products, Inc. as an Equipment Operator for the next four years before taking the instructor position at SGTC.

The Caterpillar Think Big career development program helps train students for careers at Caterpillar. The two year associate’s degree program helps prepare its graduates to become experts in electronically controlled engines, sophisticated computer-based diagnostics, state-of-the-art hydraulics, transmissions, and more. Students learn to service Caterpillar equipment using cutting-edge diagnostic and maintenance systems, advanced technologies, and high-tech tools. ThinkBIG combines classroom work with hands-on learning in the field and in state-of-the-art labs, so students see technologies in real-world applications—solving problems and helping Caterpillar customers get their jobs done.
