Jets’ Pitts and Wilson tapped for GCAA All-Conference honors
South Georgia Technical College Jets Aaron Pitts and Nathan Wilson were selected by the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Men’s Division I basketball coaches as members of the GCAA’s All-Region teams for the 2022 – 2023 season.
Sophomore Aaron Pitts was selected to the GCAA First Team All-Region spot and sophomore Nathan Wilson was named to the GCAA All-Defensive Team.
Aaron Pitts, Jr., a 6’ 4” sophomore guard from Columbus, GA, was the leading scorer for the Jets averaging 16.3 points per game. He was a 43.7% shooter from the field and hit 36.9% of his three-point attempts. He shot 70.4% from the foul line. Pitts also pulled down 5.4 rebounds and contributed 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season.
Pitts was joined on the first team by Carlos Hart, South Georgia State College, Zyterious Wright of Gordon State College, P.J. Carter of Georgia Highlands College and Davonta Cook of Albany Technical College on the first team.
South Georgia State’s Carolos Hart was selected as the GCAA Player of the Year and J.J. Merritt of Georgia Highlands College was the GCAA Coach of the Year. Georgia Highland’s Khyee Cayne was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year and Demarco Bethea of Andrew College was the freshman of the Year.
Sophomore Nathan Wilson of Auckland, New Zealand, was the other South Georgia Technical College Jet spotlighted by the GCAA Division 1 men’s coaches. Wilson, a 6’ 8” forward, averaged 9.3 points per game and 8.7 rebounds. He also had 1.9 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals each game this season. His efforts earned him a spot on the GCAA All-Defensive team.
Joining Wilson on the All-Defensive Team were: Khyree Cayne of Georgia Highlands, Demarco Bethea of Andrew College, Justin Edmondson of South Georgia State and Ubong Okon of Georgia Highlands College.
Freshman of the Year, Demarco Bethea of Andrew College was also listed as a second team All-GCAA. Greg Jones of East Georgia, Akili Evans of Georgia Highland, Zae Wiggins of South Georgia State and Melvin Edwards of Albany Tech were the other players selected for this honor. Honorable mention went to Julian Dozier of Georgia Highlands, Christian Watkins of Gordon State, Rafel Rubel of Central Georgia Tech, Chaydon Stone of Gordon State College and Alphonse Dutreuli of Southern Crescent Tech.
Bethea of Andrew College was listed again on the All-Freshman squad along with Greg Jones of East Georgia State, Christian Watkins of Gordan State, Alkil Evens of Georgia Highlands and Chaydon Stone of Gordon State.
