Lady Jets defeat Albany Tech in first conference match-up

Albany, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets opened the 2024 – 2025 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Conference season with an impressive 66 – 51 victory over the Albany Tech Lady Titans in Albany over the weekend to move to 1 – 0 in the conference and 10 – 5 on the season.
South Georgia Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College are currently tied for first place in the GCAA women’s Division I standings with identical 1 – 0 records. The two teams will face off in Macon, January 8 at 5:30 p.m. as part of a double-header with the Jets and Titans to follow at 7:30 p.m. Central Georgia Tech beat Southern Crescent 102 – 44 over the weekend.
Jamiah Gregory, the freshman from Marietta, GA led the team with 17 points in that match-up. Four other Lady Jets were also in double digits. Freshman Stephie Salumu had a double-double night with 15 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore’s Enola Papin and Mio Sakano both added 13 points. Sakano also had a double-double night with 10 rebounds. Kayla Carter added four points and then Hayda Toro and Mariia Ignatchenko closed out the scoring with two points each.
The Lady Jets were down 13 – 12 at the end of the first quarter but the Lady Jets held Albany Tech to only four points in the second quarter to go up 25 – 17 at the half. The Lady Jets outscored Albany Tech 22 – 13 in the third quarter and went on to win their first conference match-up, 66 – 51.
The Lady Jets participated in the Lady Jets Classic December 28 – 31 and went 2 – 1 with their only loss coming at the hands of the 11th nationally ranked Chipola College Lady Indians in an 84 – 75 battle. Two Lady Jets fouled out and three ended the game with four fouls each.
In that game, Kaiya Carter, a freshman from Houston, Texas led the Lady Jets with 19 points. Jamiah Gregory was the only other Lady Jet in double-digits with 16 points in that match-up. Stephie Salumu, Enola Papin and Mio Sakana each walked away with nine points against the nationally ranked Chipola Indians.
The Lady Jets travel to Macon to face Central Georgia Tech on Wednesday, January 8 and then return home to host East Georgia State College on Saturday, January 11th at 1 p.m. They will host Central Georgia Tech on Wednesday, January 15th at 5:30 p.m. as part of double-header and then face East Georgia State College again on Saturday, January 18th at 1 p.m. as part of a double-header in the hangar.
