SGTC Jets, Lady Jets sweep Andrew College in GCAA conference games

The South Georgia Technical College Jets put together their first two-game winning streak of the season in an impressive 81 – 57 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) game against Andrew College to move up into fifth place. The Lady Jets also secured a win over the Andrew College Lady Tigers with a 104 – 51 conference victory in the double-header.
The back to back wins put the Jets at 4 – 14 overall and 2 – 4 in the GCAA behind undefeated South Georgia State College (4 – 0), Georgia Highlands and Gordon College (3 – 1) and Albany Tech (2 – 1). South Georgia Tech is in fifth place with Central Georgia Tech (1 – 2), East Georgia (1 – 3), Andrew College (1 – 3) and Southern Crescent Tech (0-4) round out the conference standings.
The Lady Jets moved to 4 – 1 and 13 – 6 after that win and are currently in second place behind East Georgia (4- 0). Albany Tech (2-2) is currently in third place in the women’s GCAA Division I standings followed by Central Georgia Tech (1 – 3), Southern Crescent Tech (0 – 2) and Andrew (0-3).
In the opening game of the double-header, the Lady Jets broke the clock by scoring over 100 points for the second time this season. The first time was a 115 – 70 win over Central Georgia Tech’s Lady Titans. The Lady Jets held Andrew to single digit scoring in the first quarter and again in the second quarter on the way to their 53-point victory.
Kaiya Carter, a freshman from Houston, Texas, and Mio Sakano, a sophomore from Japan, tied for the top scoring honors for the Lady Jets with 19 points each. Three other Lady Jets were in double-digits. Enoia Papin, a sophomore guard from France, tossed in 16 points and then Jamiah Gregory, a freshman from Marietta, and Mariia Ignatchenko, a freshman center from Ukraine, both added 13 points.
Stephie Salumu led the team in rebounds with seven and also contributed seven points. Hayda Toro and Maria Favero both added six points and Duilly Silva closed out the scoring with five points.
Following the impressive win by the Lady Jets, the Jets took to the court and clinched their second consecutive conference win. The Jets pulled ahead 34 – 21 at the end of the first half and then outscored Andrew 47 – 36 in the second half to clinch the victory with a 24-point margin.
Freshman center Matt Mbole from Cameroon, and Jordan Dickson, a freshman guard from Canada, led the Jets in scoring with 12 points each. Mbole had a double-double game with 10 rebounds. Jalexs Ewing, a freshman guard from Augusta, was the only other Jet in double-digits with 11 points.
Ilich Yacaman came away with 7 points and Aiden Fitzgerald tossed in six points. Joshua Langefels, Zhian Briggs, Daryl Bod, and Babacar Diop all accounted for five points each and then Hendrens Bartelus and Matija Vucic had four points each. Darius Willis and Dwight Brown had three and two points to close out the scoring for the Jets.
The Jets will travel to Georgia Highlands in Rome on Wednesday, January 29 to try and extend their winning streak to three straight. Georgia Highlands is currently tied for second place in the conference. Both the Jets and the Lady Jets will play at home on Saturday, February 1st at 1 and 3 p.m. in a conference matchup against Albany Tech. The Lady Jets will host the Lady Titans at 1 p.m. and the Jets will follow up at 3 p.m.
