South Georgia Tech Lady Jet Fatou Pouye named GCAA Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks
South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets sophomore forward Fatou Pouye from Kaolack, Senegal, has been selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division I women’s basketball player of the week for two consecutive weeks.
The 6’ 0” forward averaged 16.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 1.5 block shots in the Lady Jets two wins this week to earn her second Player of the Week honors in as many weeks. She shared those honors with Sharia Lay of Georgia Highlands College last week. Pouye was nominated as the Player of the Week after she averaged 15.5 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists. Georgia Highland’s Lay scored 20 points, 22 rebounds, 3 assists, five blocks and two steals in her only game that week.
South Georgia Technical College and Georgia Highlands are currently both tied for first place in the GCAA Division I standings with 2 – 0 conference records. The Lady Jets are 5 – 1 overall and Georgia Highlands is 3 – 1 this season.
“I am very proud of Fatou Pouye,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “She earned this recognition. This has been a big couple of weeks for her and I hope that she continues to grow and improve each week.”
