Three South Georgia Tech Jets named to 2015-2016 Division I GCAA All-Conference teams
South Georgia Technical College had three players named to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) 2015 – 2016 All Region teams.
Sophomore forward Demario Beck of Cochran, Georgia, was selected as a first team All-Region player. The 6’ 8” player was the leading scorer for the Jets this season averaging 11.0 points per game over 25 games. He was also the Jets leading rebounder with an average of 9.8 per game.
In addition to Beck, South Georgia Tech’s sophomore Clarence Smith was named to the GCAA All-Defensive team and freshman Rico Simmons was selected to be a member of the All-Freshman squad.
Smith, a guard from Valdosta, Georgia, averaged 10.2 points per game as well as 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.8 steals during each of the 30 games that he played with the Jets this season. Freshman Rico Simmons from Wilkinson County, scored 9.4 points per game, had 2.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals each game during the 29 games he played for the Jets.
The top-ranked GCAA Georgia Highland’s Coach Phil Gaffney was nominated as the Coach of the Year and Tyrone Sam of South Georgia State College was selected as the Player of the Year. South Georgia State is ranked second behind Georgia Highlands in the end of the season standings. Doniel Dean and Ty’Lik Evans from Georgia Highlands were named the Defensive Player of the Year and the Freshman Player of the Year.
