Like it or not, accidents happen.  If you happen to be in a vehicle when one of those unfortunate accidents take place, individuals with the skills to make those necessary repairs can become every driver’s friend.

South Georgia Technical College offers Auto Collision Repair Technology as one of its over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs of study. And right now, there is a high demand for students with the right skills in this industry.

SGTC Career Services Director Cynthia Carter met with SGTC Auto Collision Repair Technology Instructor Starlyn Sampson and several of his students to share employment opportunities for upcoming graduates interested in working in an auto collision shop or related industry.

Auto Collision shops are equipped with modern repair equipment and staffed by collision repair experts.  Students can complete the Auto Collision Repair program in three terms and new students can start every term.

Individuals in this program learn about Automotive Component Repair & Replacement, Foundations of Collision Repair, Fundamentals of Automotive Welding, Auto Painting and Refinishing, Painting and Refinishing Techniques, and Major Collision Repair and Replacements. Students can earn certificates in Automotive Collision Repair Assistant I and II and Automotive Refinishing Assistant I and II while pursuing a diploma.

If you are interested in this career field, contact Instructor Starlyn Sampson, ssampson@southgatech.edu or call 229-931-2580.  SGTC Auto Collison Repair graduates are employed in-field with Chad’s Paint & Body in Ellaville, Snider Auto Care in Americus, W&R Paint & Body in Oglethorpe, and Custom Collision Americus.  Currently, a number of industries are looking to employ auto collision repair technicians including: Blue Bird Body Company, Caliber Collision, Butler Auto Paint, CarMax, and Albany Chrysler Dodge Ram.
