BLOG: 5 Reasons Why Summer Classes Make Sense

May 14, 2019

Let’s face it: school is probably the last thing you want to think about right now. For many graduating high school students and current college students, summer is a time to rest. A time to relax. A time to do whatever – not school.

But hear me out – summer is also the perfect time to sign up for a few classes at South Georgia Technical College. Whether you’re fresh out of high school or already a college student, here are five reasons to consider signing up for summer semester before you close the books for a few months.

1. It’s short

Summer semester only lasts eight weeks (39 class days!), making it the shortest semester of the year (about half the length of spring and fall semesters). The classes often meet more frequently than during the typical semester and may run longer than normal also – but if you’re up for the challenge, it can be rewarding. At the end of the 39 days, the semester will be done and you’ll be finished with those classes.

2. You can catch up

Maybe you fell behind one semester. That’s okay! Life gets in the way and things happen. We get that. Summer semester allows you the opportunity to take classes to get you back on track to graduate. Sign up for a class this summer to make up for the one that you had to drop last semester. In doing so, you’re closer to graduating and getting that high-paying job you’ve been wanting.

3. You can get ahead

It normally takes two years to earn your associate’s degree or diploma from South Georgia Tech – but it doesn’t have to! By taking a couple of classes this summer, you’ll be that much closer to graduating when the time comes. Why wait around in college when you could be in the workforce, doing what you love and making some serious money?

4. Financial help

Financial Aid – two words that sound like music to a college student’s ears. Financial aid is still available for the summer semester, and there may be other options for you to offset costs for your program (HOPE Career Grant, etc. etc.). Speak to our financial aid office to find out how to apply and to find out what is available to you.

5. Online options

Already made summer plans? Take us with you! With several online class options available this summer, you can still enjoy that family vacation or time to yourself while completing your class work.

Make your summer count by taking a few classes this semester. South Georgia Technical College’s summer semester begins on Wednesday, May 23 – with a special registration day taking place the day before, on Tuesday, May 22. The registration day will serve as a way for new and returning students to register for classes, apply for financial aid, and ask any other questions you may have.

Those who are interested in attending but have not applied for admission are encouraged to do so now! Visit our website to begin the application process, or visit our admissions office to take advantage of our one-stop admissions process.
