Charlene Dupree Williams named SGTC Retention and Coaching Specialist in Crisp County
Charlene Dupree Williams of Ellaville has been hired for the South Georgia Technical College Crisp County Center Student Affairs Retention and Coaching Specialist grant position effective immediately, announced South Georgia Technical College President John Watford.
Williams has been working as a Student Affairs Assistant at the South Georgia Technical College Americus campus for the past four years and has been with South Georgia Technical College full-time since 2006.
She has worked as an office assistant in the Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Distant Education, Institutional Effectiveness, and Career Services office during her 10-year tenure with South Georgia Technical College. Her duties have included office and recruiting functions as well as assisting students, testing, and helping with online or distance education procedures.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to Charlene,” said President Watford. “I think that this will be an excellent fit for her skill set and we are looking for her to increase the retention results on the Crisp County Center campus. We believe that with her background in the admissions, academic affairs and testing areas, she will be a valuable asset to our students and instructors on the Cordele campus in this grant-funded position.”
As the new Student Affairs Retention and Coaching Specialist, Williams will continue to report to South Georgia Technical College Vice President of Student Affairs, Institutional Support and Technology Karen Werling. She will be coaching students by providing support services that enable students to sustain their college enrollment and help strengthen students in academic and technical areas of study. She will coordinate procedures for instructor referrals. This position was created through grant funding.
Williams will also conduct career evaluations and assessments; assist with the development of individual education plans; conduct placement exams for applicants and post-testing for learning support students. She will also assist with student workshops and with career assessments, job searches, and employment outlook.
Williams earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting/Business Administration from South Georgia Technical College in 2008. She was named to the President’s List and was a Student of the Month.
She continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management from DeVry University in 2011 and her Master of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management in 2014.
The new SGTC Retention and Coaching Specialist is married to Ralph Williams of Ellaville and they have seven children and 13 grandchildren. Two of their children, Matthew Williams and Yaudeskia Williams are both students at South Georgia Technical College. Matthew is in the Criminal Justice program and Yaudeskia is a Medical Assisting student.
Charlene and her husband, Ralph, are members of the 4th United Holiness Church in Ellaville.
