Darius Collier Honored as SGTC Student of Excellence
Darius Collier of Montezuma was recognized as the overall South Georgia Technical College Student of Excellence for November during a recent ceremony on the college’s Americus campus. Collier is in the Aircraft Structural Technology program and was nominated for the honor by his instructor, Jason Wisham.
“I nominated Darius because he has a great work ethic,” Wisham stated. “He’s had a great attitude from day one, and that says a lot.”
Collier was honored to receive the Student of Excellence distinction. “I’d like to thanks Mr. Wisham and my classmates,” he said. “I look forward to finishing school and graduating.”
Other students recognized by their instructors as outstanding students in their program areas were: Logan Mullins of Sharpsburg, Aviation Maintenance Technology, nominated by Victoria Herron; Brandon Ross of Macon, Auto Collision Repair Technology, nominated by Starlyn Sampson; Kadarius Idlette of Americus, Automotive Technology, nominated by Brandon Dean; Bernard Mason Bryan III of Buena Vista, Diesel Equipment Technology, nominated by Chase Shannon; and Garrett Whitson of Douglasville, Motorsports Vehicle Technology, nominated by Kevin Beaver.
Each month, students from certain divisions selected for that month are nominated for the Student of Excellence award by their instructors. As the winner, Collier was awarded with a plaque of recognition, a personal letter of recommendation from SGTC President Dr. John Watford and a $50 check for his accomplishments. Additionally, his name will be displayed on SGTC’s digital marquee as well as inscribed on a plaque in Hicks Hall among previous Student of Excellence winners. Each nominee was awarded with a nomination certificate and an exclusive student of excellence t-shirt.
