Jets defeat Andrew College and advance to GCAA end of season playoffs
Cuthbert, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets traveled to Cuthbert and took a 79 – 63 win over Andrew College to clinch a spot in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XVII end of the season playoffs.
“It felt good to win,” said SGTC Jets head coach Chris Ballauer. “That win allowed us to clinch a spot in the playoffs, now we just don’t know in what position or where we will play on Tuesday, March 7th,” said SGTC Jets head coach Chris Ballauer. The Jets finished the regular season with a 5 – 11 GCAA record and 8 – 21 overall record. They are currently in seventh place but the other eight teams have one game left to play on Saturday, March 4th before the final seeds are released.
The top four teams will host a playoff game on Tuesday, March 7th. Georgia Highlands (14 – 1), South Georgia State 11 – 4), Albany Tech (11 -4) and Andrew College (8 – 7) are currently the top four teams. Each of them has a game Saturday. Central Georgia Tech (7 – 9), East Georgia (7 – 9) followed by SGTC (5 – 11) and Gordon College (4 – 11) are currently the fifth – eighth place GCAA teams who qualify for the playoffs. South Georgia Tech is the only one of those eight teams that has completed the regular season.
The first-place seed will host the eighth-place team. The second ranked squad will host the number seven seed, the third-place team will host the sixth-place team and fourth place will host and match-up with fifth place.
“Right now, we know there is a possibility that we might play in Rome, Waycross or Albany on Tuesday,” said Coach Ballauer. “We will just have to wait and see.”
