Jets fall to Georgia Highlands in GCAA conference game

Rome, GA – The SGTC Jets made three back-to-back turnovers and were held scoreless in the final two minutes of a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) game against Georgia Highlands to allow the Chargers to overcome a six-point deficit and secure a 100 – 93 victory.

   The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Jets and dropped them to 4 – 15 overall and 2 – 3 in the conference.  They are currently tied for fifth place behind unbeaten South Georgia State College (4-0) and Georgia Highlands (4-1), which is tied for second place with Gordon College (4 – 1).  Albany Tech (3 – 1) is currently in fourth place followed by East Georgia and South Georgia Tech (2-3) tied for fifth.  They are followed by Central Georgia Tech (1-3), Andrew College (1-4), and Southern Crescent Tech (0-5).

   South Georgia Tech and Georgia Highlands exchanged leads throughout the first half until Georgia Highlands went up 46 – 42 at the end of the first 20-minutes.  The two teams continued to battle in the second half and SGTC was able to take a 10-point lead going into the final 10-minutes. 

   Georgia Highlands continued to whittle away at that lead and even though SGTC still had a 93 – 87 lead with 2:10 remaining in the game, the Chargers outscored the Jets 13 – 0 to take a 100 – 93 victory.

   SGTC had five players in double digits.  They were led by Aiden Fitzgerald, who had 21 points.  Dwight Brown added 17 points and Jalexs Ewing and Matija Vucic both came away with 12 points. Daryl Bod tossed in 11 points to close out the double-digit scoring for SGTC. 

   Georgia Highlands had four-players in double-figures with Jay’Ouan Nelson and Marquin Thompson tossing in 22 and 21 points respectively.

  The Jets and the Lady Jets will both be back in action on Saturday, February 1st at home when they host Albany Tech in a double-header in the Hangar.  The Lady Jets will take on the Lady Titans (3-2) at 1 p.m. and the Jets will face the Titans at 3 p.m.  The Lady Jets defeated Albany Tech 66 – 51 on January 4 and this will be the first meeting between Albany Tech and the SGTC Jets.
