Jets win first conference game, Lady Jets lose to East Georgia State

The South Georgia Technical College Jets captured their first conference win of the season in an impressive 89 – 61 decision over SGTC Jets former head coach Travis Garrett and his East Georgia State College Bobcats. The Lady Jets lost their first conference game of the season 84 – 80 in the first half of the double-header against the East Georgia Lady Bobcats.

Enola Papin, 24, had 24 points including six three-point shots in the Lady Jets loss to East Georgia.
The impressive 89 – 61 victory was a big morale boost for the Jets which moved up to sixth place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference and are now 1 – 2 and 3 -14. The four-point loss for the Lady Jets dropped them into second place with a 3 – 1 conference record behind East Georgia which moved into first place as the only unbeaten women’s team in the GCAA.
This was the men’s first win in the 2025 year and broke a four-game losing streak. East Georgia came out strong and were up 22 – 18 after the first 10-minutes of play. In the last six-minutes of the first half Joshua Langefels came in and gave the Jets a spark with five quick points and helped them pull ahead 29 – 27. From that point on, the Jets never trailed and were up 49 – 36 at the end of the first half.
They built on that 13-point lead and pulled ahead by as many 30 points in the second half before capturing the 89 – 61 victory. Three Jets were in double-digits. Jordan Dickson, a freshman from Toronto, Canada led the team in scoring with 18 points. He also led the team in rebounds with seven.
Jalexs Ewing, a freshman from Augusta, added 13 points and Hendrens Bartelus, a freshman forward from Lake Worth, FL, closed out the double digit scoring with 11 points. Dwight Brown came away with nine points, Joshua Langefels had seven, and Aiden Fitzgerald tossed in six. The remainder of the scoring was split with Darius Willis and Matija Vucic with 5 each; Daryl Bod and Ilich Yacaman both had four points, Zhaian Briggs tossed in three; and Babacar Diop and Matt Mbole had two each.
The Lady Jets suffered their first conference loss in the first-half of that double-header after East Georgia outscored them three of the four quarters. East Georgia clinched the win when they posted 27 points in the four quarter and held the Lady Jets to only 20.
East Georgia was up 18 – 16 at the end of the first quarter and then went up 41 – 33 at the half. The Lady Jets had a strong third quarter and outscored the Lady Bobcats 27 – 16 to pull ahead 60 – 57 at the end of the first three quarters. However, East Georgia pulled ahead 69 – 67 in the final six minutes and maintained a lead until Jamiah Gregory hit a three pointer with 1:39 remaining to put the Lady Jets up 80 – 79.
East Georgia scored five points in the final 1:33 of the game and held the Lady Jets scoreless to take the 84 – 80 victory.
Despite the loss, five Lady Jets were in double-digits. Sophomore Enola Papin led her team with 24 points. Jamiah Gregory added 14 points, Kaiya Carter and Mio Sakano both had 12 points and Stephie Salumu came away with 10 points. The only two other Lady Jets to score were Mariia Ignatchenko with seven and Cheyenne Preston with one point.
Both teams will be back in action Saturday, January 25, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. when they host Andrew College in the Hangar. Both Andrew’s teams are looking for their first conference win this season. The Lady Tigers are 0 – 1 and the Tigers are 0 – 2.
