LaShondra D. Coleman named Assistant Vice President for Adult Education at South Georgia Technical College
LaShondra D. Coleman of Marietta has been named Assistant Vice President for Adult Education at South Georgia Technical College effective immediately, announced President Dr. John Watford. She will be reporting to South Georgia Technical College’s Vice President of Economic Development Wally Summers.
“South Georgia Technical College’s Adult Education department is one of the finest in the state,” said President Watford. “This department works with the individuals in our area who need basic academic skills and who are interested in GED test preparation, Adult Literacy and Workplace Literacy Programs. We are very fortunate to have someone with LaShondra Coleman’s experience to fill this valuable position and we look forward to working with her in this capacity.”
President Watford also added that Adult Education is extremely important to the college’s overall mission of workforce development. “By providing individuals in our service area with access to Adult Education and GED services, we are helping to provide a better trained workforce for business and industry. We are also encouraging our GED graduates to continue their education and training by enrolling in South Georgia Technical College.”
Coleman has a Master of Education in Guidance Education with endorsements in Reading Comprehension, Education and Psychology or Mental Health. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She has been working as an Education Curriculum Specialist with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice where she supervised the General Education Development (GED) and General Education Plan (GEP) instructors in the Youth Detention Centers throughout Georgia.
She has also worked as a College and Career Transitions Coordinator/Lead Career Coach at Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe, Louisiana, and was an Education Coordinator/Adult Basic Education Coordinator for Hinds Community College in Vicksburg, MS. She has also taught at the middle school and elementary school levels.

As the Assistant Vice President for Adult Education, Coleman will be responsible for management of adult education programs and instructional services for Georgia citizens in a five county Service Delivery Area (SDA) as determined by awarded grant application. She will plan and organize the SDA work to meet the Technical College System of Georgia Office of Adult Education National Reporting System (NRA) goals and other specified directed activities as well as prepare the program specifications and budget for the SDA.
She will also monitor progress and productivity of assigned staff, promote the Adult Education Program to public and private organizations, serve on various boards and committees, oversee the administration of assessment and student placement tests for Adult Education students; maintain and oversee the maintenance of student records and provide financial management to include budget development and oversight responsibilities.
Coleman will be replacing Jan Hobgood, who retired from the South Georgia Technical College Assistant Vice President for Adult Education position, with over 20 years of experience.
