The Nail Technician program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the field of Nail Technician. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, state laws, rules, and regulations, nail diseases and disorders, skin and nail care, and work ethics. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology. Program graduates receive a Nail Technician certificate and are employable as a Nail Technician.

COSM 1000 Intro to Cosmetology Theory Introduces fundamental both theory and practices of the cosmetology profession. Emphasis will be placed on professional practices and safety. Topics include: state rules, and regulations; state regulatory agency, image; bacteriology; decontamination and infection control, chemistry fundamentals, safety, Hazardous Duty Standards Act compliance, and anatomy and physiology. COSM 1070 Nail Care & Advanced Techniques Provides training in manicuring, pedicuring and advanced nail techniques. Topics include:implements, products and supplies, hand and foot anatomy and Physiology, diseases and disorders, manicure techniques, pedicure techniques, nail product chemistry, safety precautions and practices, and advanced nail techniques (wraps/tips/acrylics). COSM 1120 Salon Management Emphasizes the steps involved in opening and operating a privately owned salon. Topics include: law requirements regarding employment, tax payer education / federal and state responsibilities, law requirements for owning and operating a salon business, business management practices, and public relations and career development. COSM 1180 Natural Nail Practicum Provides additional experience in Manicuring and Pedicuring techniques required of applicants for state licensure. Emphasis is placed on performance, using live models in an actual or simulated occupational setting. Topics include: manicure, nail repair, artificial nails, pedicure, nail art, reception, dispensary, advanced/new techniques, documentation, customer service skills, safety precautions, federal/state agency compliance, and state board foundation prep.

COSM 1190 Advanced Nail Practicum I Provides nail care experience on live models. Emphasis will be placed on the display of professional conduct and positive attitudes. The appropriate number of applications required by the state board of cosmetology in theory and service credit requirements for this course. Emphasis is placed on performance, using live models in an actual or simulated occupational setting. Topics include: manicure, nail repair, artificial nails, pedicure, nail art, electric drill, reception, dispensary, advanced/new techniques, documentation, customer service skills, safety precautions, federal/state agency compliance, and state board comprehension.
