SGTC Board member Don Porter recognized for service

     South Georgia Technical College Board of Director member Don Porter, former local manager of Georgia Power in Americus, was presented with a plaque recognizing him for six years of outstanding service and leadership on the SGTC Board of Directors as a Sumter County representative.  He is being relocated with Georgia Power and is now the Albany Area Manager.

     Don Porter served as a Sumter County representative on the South Georgia Technical College Board of Directors from 2018 – 2024 and has served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board during those six years of service.

    South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford thanked Porter for his valuable service and commitment to South Georgia Technical College, Sumter and surrounding counties, and the students served by the college.

   “We have certainly benefited from your service and expertise on this board and we wish you all the best in the coming days,” said Dr. Watford. 

   The plaque presented to Porter recognized him for outstanding service and leadership to the South Georgia Technical College Board of Directors.

   SGTC Board of Directors Chairman Grant C. Buckley of the Cordele-Crisp County Industrial Development Authority, and SGTC Vice Chairman Jake Everett from Webster County also thanked Porter for his service on behalf of the other SGTC Board of Director members.  The other board members include Michael Coley of Sumter County, and Jamie Penoncello of Marion County.

  Don Porter shared with Board members and SGTC President Dr. John Watford and members of his senior leadership staff how much he had enjoyed being a part of the SGTC Board of Directors and getting to know more about the college.  He also shared how the college, faculty, and staff had impacted his children’s education and career opportunities.
