SGTC Career Services hosts career forum for Housing Authority of Americus
South Georgia Technical College’s Career Services department recently coordinated a career forum for the Housing Authority of Americus. SGTC faculty and staff representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid, Adult Education, Academic Affairs, and the Criminal Justice Technology program all provided informational presentations. The event was organized by SGTC Director of Career Services Cynthia Carter. Presenters from SGTC included Kenia Wills of Adult Education, Criminal Justice Technology instructor Teresa McCook, Director of Career Services Cynthia Carter, Director of Admissions Whitney Crisp, Yolanda Tyson of Financial Aid, Academic Dean Vanessa Wall, and non-traditional student Annie Streeter, who gave a personal testimony of returning to college after 40 years. “SGTC’s office of Career Services is available to assist job seekers—including resume assistance, conducting mock interviews, or job placement services,” said Carter. She gave resume writing tips and job interview advice to tenants of the Housing Authority. SGTC faculty and staff presenters spoke about the many programs available at SGTC and financial aid available to students. Several of the forum attendees filled out applications to attend South Georgia Technical College, Carter reported. Sixty tenants attended the forum under the leadership of Resident Services Coordinator Diana Roberts. “We’re working directly with Mrs. Roberts and the Housing Authority’s tenants to enhance the quality of life in our communities,” said Carter. The Housing Authority of Americus (HAA) is committed to providing quality, safe, and affordable housing to eligible families in an efficient, ethical, non-discriminatory and professional manner.
