SGTC Foundation Trustee Monica Simmons honored with GACCE Legacy Award
South Georgia Technical College Foundation Trustee and Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce President Monica Simmons was presented with the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives’ top award – the GACCE Legacy award at the 2019 GACCE Executive Leadership Conference.
For more than 20 years, the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE) has presented its Legacy Award, the association’s most prestigious award. The Legacy Award recognizes long-term executives who have excelled over a period of years in leading and innovatively building their chamber. The award is based on the demonstration of excellence in area of chamber leadership, organizational management, service to the profession, community reputation/involvement, and personal attributes.
“We are honored to have Monica Simmons here in Crisp County, supporting us and we truly wouldn’t be where we are today without her. I think I speak for all the Past Chars as well as myself, the current Chair, when I say that Monica is an integral part of what keeps us growing as a Chamber and as a community. There is not a person who has not sought and received help from her. She really cares about her community,” said Matthew Mackey, who is serving as the 2019 chamber chairman.
Simmons has served as President of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber for over 30 years. She works diligently in promoting Cordele and Crisp County with city, county, state, and federal officials in order to improve the quality of life for the residents of the Crisp County area.
She also serves as a member of the South Georgia Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees where she is involved in supporting the mission of South Georgia Technical College through workforce education, serves as an advisor in the advancement of the college and helps to plan and implement resource development activities to expand the awareness of the college, provide opportunities for more students to attend the college through scholarships and other forms of financial assistance, to procure special equipment, to upgrade present physical facilities and to improve programs and recognition for South Georgia Technical College.
