SGTC hosting Alumni and Sophomore Day celebration

South Georgia Technical College is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its first graduating class this year and in recognition of this milestone, the college will be hosting an Alumni Day Celebration on Saturday, February 23rd in the James S. Peters gymnasium in conjunction with the Jets and Lady Jets basketball games and Sophomore Day recognition. Students, faculty and staff, retirees and alumni will be admitted to the games for free.

All South Georgia Technical College alumni and former faculty and staff members are encouraged to come out and join in the celebration. The 2018 – 2019 Jets and Lady Jets sophomores will be recognized between the two basketball games around 2:30 p.m. and then the alumni and former faculty and staff will be recognized during the half-time of the Jets ball game around 3:30 p.m.

The Alumni Day Celebration will kick-off around 10:00 a.m. with an Alumni Basketball game featuring former Jets and Lady Jets basketball standouts. Following that activity, there will be a free Hot Dog and Hamburger cookout and Tailgate event sponsored by the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce.

The tailgating event will lead into a technical college showdown with the top ranked Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Lady Jets basketball team facing off against the fourth-ranked Albany Technical College Lady Titans. The fourth-ranked Jets will take to the court at 3 p.m. against the eighth-ranked Albany Tech Titans following the Sophomore Day recognition of the 2018 – 2019 Jets and Lady Jets sophomores.

Special alumni/sophomore t-shirts will be available at no cost while supplies last, during the SGTC Alumni Day Celebration on February 23rd as part of the college’s 70th anniversary celebration. Admission to the games and the tailgating events are Free.

Students will be participating in several activities during the week including a bon fire behind the SGTC Energy and Transportation Center building on Monday, February 18th at 7 p.m. following the Lady Jets basketball game at 5:30 p.m. against Combine Academy. The Jets will play at home on Wednesday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. in a region contest against South Georgia State College and then the Alumni/Sophomore Day activities will begin on February 23rd at 10 a.m. Following the games and tailgating activities on Saturday, a post-game social will be held at 6 p.m. for the alumni and students.

During the Alumni/Sophomore Day activities drawings will be held for a $900 Husqvarna DRT900E Tiller and a $400 Husqvarna Self-Propelled Gas Mower. Tickets are available for the $10 for the tiller and $5 each or five for $20 for the self-propelled gas mower.
