SGTC Hosts Joint Barbering and Cosmetology Advisory Committee Meeting on Americus Campus
South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently held a meeting of the advisory committee for its barbering and cosmetology programs on the Americus campus to discuss updates and trends in the programs and the beauty industry.
The advisory committee, consisting of industry professionals and faculty, plays a key role in supporting continuous improvement within SGTC’s beauty programs. Andre Robinson, SGTC barbering instructor, and Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie, cosmetology instructor, provided updates on program changes, enrollment, community engagement, and student achievements.
Committee members offered insights on suggested curriculum enhancements, upcoming training opportunities, emerging technologies, and job placement prospects for students. This input helps SGTC faculty align the curriculum with industry standards and better prepare students for successful careers.
Attendees included Martha Bruce of KB’s Beauty Salon; Greg Long of Long Cuts; Kimbrell Harris of Kem’s Beauty Salon; Brandon Price of Sophisticuts; Jessakeetha Maddox, Nail Tech instructor; Maryann Reiselbara, cosmetology instructor; and Tracy Finch of Dorothea’s Beauty Salon. Additionally, Fabiola San Martin Garcia, an SGTC barbering student, participated in the discussion. SGTC Academic Dean Dr. David Finley, Institutional Effectiveness Director Katrice Martin, and Alecia Pinckney, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, were also present.
Advisory committees provide a critical link between SGTC and industry trends, helping faculty stay informed of changes in workplace requirements that are then passed on to students.
SGTC offers over 200 associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates across a wide range of in-demand fields. For more information on SGTC programs and to apply, visit www.southgatech.edu.
