South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently held mock interviews for Class #64 of the Electrical Lineworker (ELW) program, giving students valuable practice and feedback to prepare for real-world job interviews. The event was organized by Cynthia Carter, Director of Career Services, with assistance from Sandhya Muljibhai, WIOA Coordinator, and Chelsea Payne, HR Support Specialist at Flint Energies.

During the mock interviews, students showcased their skills and training, discussing their experience with climbing poles, servicing transmission lines, and operating bucket trucks. They also demonstrated knowledge of the essential tools used by lineworkers, including hand tools, climbing gear, safety harnesses, hard hats, and gloves. Safety was a primary focus, with students recognizing it as a critical aspect of their future careers.

Carter emphasized the importance of soft skills for lineworkers, including critical thinking, time management, attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to work independently. “These skills are vital for success in the field,” Carter noted. “Our students are learning not only the technical expertise needed but also the practical skills to thrive in the workforce.”

The mock interviews provided a valuable opportunity for students to gain confidence and demonstrate their readiness to move into the industry as qualified lineworkers.
