SGTC Jet Deonte Williams earns GCAA Player of Week honors again
South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Jet Deonte Williams recently was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following SGTC’s win over Chattahoochee Valley Community College. This is the second time this season he has been tapped for the honor.
Deonte Williams, a 6’ 6” sophomore guard from Sydney, Australia, scored 17 points, and came away with seven rebounds, seven assists and one steal in the Jets victory on the road against Chattahoochee Valley Community College. The Jets are 5 – 5 overall.
Williams first was selected as the GCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week November 13 and now he has been tapped again for the honor. Williams was one of four sophomores who returned to play this season with the Jets.
Last season, Williams was injured and only played in seven games for the Jets. He averaged 9.1 points per game, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. This season, Williams has started and played in nine of the 10 games for the Jets and is averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals.
The Jets will be in action again on the road, December 19 when they travel to USC Saikenhatchie in Walterboro, SC. That game is at 3 p.m. That will be the final game for the 2023 year. They will open 2024 on the road on January 6 with a trip to Coastal Alabama. Game time is 3 p.m.
