SGTC Jets drop three decisions on the road
The South Georgia Technical College Jets continue to struggle on the road. They dropped three away games including Brunswick Community College (93 – 53), Cape Fear Community College (82 – 73), and 18th nationally ranked Tallahassee Community College (69 – 59), to fall to 1 – 7 on the young season.
All eight of the Jets regular season games have been on the road and they have faced two nationally ranked teams. They are scheduled for a rematch against 18th ranked Tallahassee Community College in their first home game of the season on Saturday, December 14 at 3 p.m. They will also face Chipola College, which received votes in the national poll, in Marianna, FL on December 11th.
The Jets traveled to Wilmington, NC, to participate in the Cape Fear Classic on November 15 and 16. They never got into the game against Brunswick Community College in their first match-up when they lost 93 – 53. Brunswick Community College almost doubled the Jets’ point production in the first half when they went up 45 – 24 after the first 20-minutes. They continued to keep the pressure on the Jets in the second half and sealed the 40-point victory.
Only one Jet was in double digits in that game. Sophomore guard Daryl Bod of Paris, France, scored 10 points to lead his team in scoring. He had four rebounds and one blocked shot. Freshman forward Hendrens Bartelus of Lake Worth, FL came away with nine points and nine rebounds. Aiden Fitzgerald and Matija Vucic both tossed in six points; Darius Willis added five; Zhian Briggs, Vaughn Prosser and Dwight Brown each contributed four points, and Jayden Simmons and Jordan Dickson came away with two points.
A slow start in the second-game of the Cape Fear Classic gave the Jets their second loss of the tournament in an 82 – 73 showing against Cape Fear. The Jets fell behind by 10 points in the first half, 34 – 24, and Cape Fear maintained the lead in the second half to clinch the win by nine points.
Freshman Aiden Fitzgerald of Perth, Australia, had a good night for the Jets with 22 points, one rebound, one assist and two steals. He was five of 10 from the three-point line, five of five from the foul line and one of four from the floor. Freshman Dwight Brown of Conyers, GA, was the only other Jet in double-digits with 12 points. He also had five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Jordon Dickson contributed nine points. Hendrens Bartelus led the team in rebounds with 11 and also had eight points. They were followed by Daryl Bod with seven points, Matija Vucic with six, Vaughn Prosser, five; and Zhain Briggs had four points.
The Jets continued to struggle on the road when they traveled to Tallahassee to take on the 18th ranked Tallahassee Eagles. The Jets kept it close in the first half and were up 34 – 31 at the end of the first 20-minutes. However, Tallahassee came back in the second half and outscored the Jets 38 – 25 to remain unbeaten and move to 6 – 0 on the young season.
Three Jets were in double-figures in that game with Hendrens Bartelus leading the team with 16 points and nine rebounds. He also had two assists and a blocked shot. Aiden Fitzgerald and Matija Vucic scored 10 each and then Dwight Brown contributed seven points. Jordan Dickson added five, Zhian Briggs, four; Vaughn Prosser, three; and Daryl Bod and Jayden Simmons had two each.
The Jets will try to turn things around when they travel to Hanceville, Alabama on November 24th to face Wallace State Community College at 3 p.m. CST. They will have a short break before traveling to Marianna, FL to take on Chipola College on December 11 at 7 p.m. CST, before hosting their first home game on December 14 against Tallahassee Community College at 3 p.m.
