SGTC Lady Jet Mariia Ignatchenko earns GCAA Player of Week honors

   South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Lady Jet freshman center Mariia Ignatchenko was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 11, 2024 following SGTC’s win over Tallahassee State College in the Tallahassee Community College Classic.

   Ignatchenko is a 6’4” freshman center from Mykolaiv, Ukraine.  This is her first season at SGTC and she has helped lead the Lady Jets to a 3 – 1 start this season.  She has played and started in all four games since the 2024 – 2025 season opened.

   Ignatchenko scored 23 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Tallahassee Community College. She is currently averaging nine points per game for the Lady Jets.  She has a total of 36 points and hits 47% of her field goal attempts.  She hit 44% of her free throws making four of nine attempts. 

   In addition to her shooting, she has pulled down a total of 25 rebounds this season, 11 offensively and 14 defensively.  She has three assists and two blocks.  She is the first Lady Jet or Jet player to be named as a GCAA Basketball Player of the Week this season.

     The Lady Jets will travel to Daytona Beach, FL, on November 22 – 23 to compete in the Daytona State Classic.  They will open up with Daytona State College on November 22 at 6 p.m. and follow up against Hillsborough Community College at 12 noon on November 23.

   The Lady Jets will return home to host the Pete Arrington Thanksgiving Classic tournament, November 29 – December 1.  They open up against Cape Fear Community College at 7 p.m. on November 29, host USC Salkehatchie on November 30 at 7 p.m. and face Southern Union State at 5 p.m. December 1.
