Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), under the guidance of Nursing Instructor Christie Rundle, recently participated in a Resume Writing workshop led by Career Services Director Cynthia Carter. The session included additional insights from Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Coordinator Sandhya Muljibhai.

The workshop focused on helping students craft polished and professional resumes tailored to LPN positions. Carter emphasized the importance of creating error-free, well-formatted resumes that highlight clinical skills, relevant certifications, and the ability to provide quality patient care. “Your resume is your first impression. Use action verbs, highlight accomplishments, and tailor it to the job to convince employers you’re the ideal candidate,” Carter advised.

Students were encouraged to showcase teamwork and communication skills, along with relevant licenses and training. Carter reminded participants of the importance of grabbing recruiters’ attention quickly, as resumes are often scanned in just 10 seconds. “Make every second count by presenting yourself as the best fit for the job,” she said.

SGTC is also gearing up for a large hiring event on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Graduates were encouraged to attend with resumes in hand and take advantage of networking opportunities with potential employers.

LPN graduates have a wide range of career options, including roles in hospitals, physicians’ offices, nursing facilities, and home healthcare. While LPNs are trained in all aspects of healthcare, many specialize in specific areas under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) or physicians. Carter highlighted that the median annual salary for an LPN was $59,730 in 2023, with earnings dependent on experience, education, and location.

SGTC is dedicated to helping students achieve their career goals. Graduates are encouraged to continue preparing for the NCLEX exam and fulfilling state licensing requirements. “We are here to empower you on your career path and provide the resources you need to succeed,” Carter said.
