SGTC Student Government Association meets
South Georgia Technical College’s clubs and organizations are gearing up for the 2016-2017 year, and the Student Government Association (SGA) recently held its first meeting on the SGTC Americus campus. Soon, new officers will be elected for the SGA on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campus, and elections were the first topic of discussion on the agenda for new and returning SGA members.
SGA advisors Paul Farr and Cynthia Carter also discussed the Party at the Park, a free concert event at the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains where several SGA members would represent SGTC and recruit potential SGA members. Other topics of discussion included the Orientation Team, Intramural Sports, and ideas for the Plan of Work.
SGA members who attended the meeting included Janiyah Johnson of Stockbridge, Odyssey Pitts of Macon, Derrius Hawk of Memphis, Tennessee; MarQuellis Watts of Americus, Jamirah Johnson of Albany, Tyler Dawkins of Dallas, Jordan McEver of Kennesaw, Elizabeth Lumpkin of Coleman, Annie K. Streeter of Americus, Hasaan Hale of Rex, Deondria Cochran of Americus, and Shayna Jones of Americus.
The next meeting for the SGA on the Americus campus will be held on Wednesday, September 7th at 10am in Hicks Hall. Any SGTC student who is interested in becoming a member of the Student Government Association is invited and encouraged to attend.
The Student Government Association consists of a representative from each program. From the representatives, five officers are selected and serve a one year term. The SGA meets the first Wednesday of every month to approve expenditures of student activity fees, coordinate activities, and address issues of concerns to students.
