South Georgia Technical College Director of Career Services Cynthia Carter was honored by the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce at the 102nd annual awards celebration at The Windsor Hotel & Thyme Restaurant recently.

Carter was singled out as the recipient of the Sparky Reeves Sumter Trustee Award.  This award was established in 2015 to recognize and honor the lifetime achievements of individuals who helped in the growth of this community – one person at a time.  This award was initially given and named in honor of former South Georgia Technical College President Sparky Reeves.  Reeves truly exemplified what it meant to be a Trustee of this community, holding the trust of Sumter County and a commitment to its growth first and foremost throughout his career.  It was been awarded to other deserving individuals each year.

SGTC’s Carter has dedicated her career to helping others find their career paths in life by sharing workforce opportunities, investing time and effort in their futures, and believing in their higher aspirations.

Carter has served SGTC as the Director of Career Services for over 20-years and worked in corporate America before joining South Georgia Technical College.  She has worked with thousands of SGTC students and graduates helping prepare them for the workforce and providing access to career services.

“We are extremely proud the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce recognized Cynthia Carter for her lifetime of service,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford.  “She has supported the growth and prosperity of local business and industry through her work at the Chamber as well as SGTC.”
