SGTC’s Dr. Michele Seay appointed to serve on SkillsUSA National Education Team

SGTC’s Dr. Michele Seay was appointed to serve on the National Education Team for SkillsUSA.

South Georgia Technical College SkillsUSA Advisor Dr. Michele Seay has been named to serve on the SkillsUSA National Education Team (NET). Her nomination was accepted by SkillsUSA Championships Program Director David J. Worden and SkillsUSA Georgia Postsecondary Director Tjazha Mazhani.

The purpose of the National Education Team is to assist SkillsUSA’s national technical committees in conducting and managing the SkillsUSA championships and communicate industry expectations for the quality of instruction and professional development in occupational areas represented in SkillsUSA championships to advisors. NET members may also be called upon throughout the year for expertise in their assigned areas.

NET members are appointed to three-year terms and are eligible to reapply for membership at the end of each term. Dr. Seay will work with the NET technical chair for the Job Interview event at the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference in June in Louisville, Kentucky.

Seay earned her Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University, her Master of Science in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Albany State University. She has been employed at South Georgia Tech since 2000 as a general core/psychology instructor and is the Department/Division Chair of General Education at SGTC.

Last month, eleven South Georgia Tech students represented SkillsUSA at state competitions in Atlanta and brought home four silver medals and one bronze medal.

SkillsUSA is a vital a solution to America’s skills gap. Annually, this student organization empowers more than 300,000 career and technical education students to achieve career success. SGTC Advisors work collectively to provide students with the personal, workplace and technical skills that prepare them to be Champions at Work. New advisor, Dr. Michele Seay played a major part in encouraging students to join SkillsUSA and to learn more about the competitions at the local, state, and national levels.
