Lisa Truitt of Americus has been named as the new Adult Education Career Services Specialist at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), announced President Dr. John Watford recently.  Truitt has been serving as the SGTC HSE Chief Examiner for the past seven years.  She will be promoted to her new position effective July 1, 2024.  This position became vacant after Tracy Israel moved up to become the Dean of Adult Education upon former Dean Lillie Ann Winn’s announced retirement.

Truitt was named Chief Examiner for HSE (GED/HiSET) for the SGTC Adult Education Department in 2017.  She was responsible for verifying each candidate’s identity and eligibility to test, prepared monthly invoices, counseled test-takers and recommended adult education classes while working closely with the adult education instructors to plan testing calendars and explain policies.

As the Career Services Specialist in the Adult Education department, Truitt will be assisting adult education students with transitioning into Post-Secondary programs at SGTC as they complete their HiSET or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).  She will promote the adult literacy programs to public and private organizations and to the general public. Her duties will include intake, assessment, recruitment, retention, student recognition, counseling, and staff development planning duties.  She will also provide instruction in academic areas such as reading, writing, English and Mathematics and other duties as assigned.

Prior to joining South Georgia Technical College’s Adult Education department, Truitt worked at Macon County High School for 19 years as the principal’s administrative assistant and school bookkeeper. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern State University and an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Gordon Junior College.

“I am excited to have Lisa Truitt in this new role,” said newly named SGTC Dean of Adult Education Tracy Israel.  “We have worked together for over seven years in our past positions.  I look forward to both of us learning and continuing in these new roles to promote the importance of adult literacy and adult education.”

Lisa and her husband, Michael, live in Americus.  They have two grown children, Jason & Lauren.  They also have five grandchildren.
